Clearly I was bored and playing around on Polyvore, so I figured I would share what my ultimately whittled down collection might one day look like. Obviously, this wouldn't be all of it, but it was enough to give you the general gist.
Lorac Unzipped palette Everyone should know by now how much I love a warm, shimmery, bronzey eye, but in case you missed me blathering on about how much I love this palette, please refer back to the Perfect Palette Tag, Question 4 (and kind of 8).
Lorac Pro Palette This one has pretty much any other color I could possibly need. And I couldn't just pick one palette. It actually pained me to just pick two.
Benefit Gimme Brow in Light/Medium This is awesome for lazy brow days, and I can always use one of the brown eyeshadows if I need more/precise definition.
the Balm Mary Lou Manizer It's shimmery and champagney and pretty and can double as yet another eyeshadow, in case the two aforementioned palettes weren't enough.
IT Cosmetics Vitality Lip Flush Butter I would take any shade, really, because they're so sheer and moisturizing and pretty much go with anything. I would also be happy with Lipstick Queen in Medieval or Saint Pinky Nude. Or my Revlon Lip Butter in Peach Parfait. Basically any lip product with some color, that actually moisturizes for a decent amount of time, that isn't fussy to apply or one that I fear smearing around during the day, and that I can put in my pocket without it melting (Fresh Sugar Balms, I'm talking to you!).
NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Chantilly I love that I can use this without foundation and it actually matches my skin! It's the closest thing I've found to my beloved (and discontinued ::shakesfist::) MUFE Full Cover Concealer #2.
Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder It's wonderful to set your undereye concealer with. Some people use it as a subtle highlight, too, but I like a little more BAM! on my cheeks.
Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eyeliner in Stingray (and Lionfish, not pictured) I think everyone needs a black and a brown and these two are pretty much everything I could ever want in eyeliners. I actually hope to one day get rid of ALL of my eyeliner, except for Stila Smudge Sticks.
And last but not least, my HG mascara, Cover Girl Lash Blast Volume. I don't care what color it comes in, brown, black/brown, or very black. I love this mascara. I've purchased umpteen tubes of it since it launched... like eight years ago?
Products Not Featured (because I could only fit so much in the collage... but still find them necessary)
MAC Paint Pot in Painterly or Maybelline Color Tattoo in Bad to the Bronze and/or Creamy Beige I love all three of these bases for different reasons. I use one of them every day, I kid you not, depending on what color I'm planning on putting on top of them.
Lorac Behind the Scenes primer For the days that I know I'm going to be up 24+ hours, or when I want to be extra sure my eyeshadow doesn't go anywhere
Cover Girl Pressed or Loose Powder I bounce back and forth between the two. It's what I've used since I first got into makeup when I was just a wee lass, raiding my sister's makeup bag. Some people say the powder smells, but I quite like it. And I've yet to find a more expensive product that beats it.
Jack Black Lip Balm (or any other HG balm that may come along) I can't believe I didn't put a lip balm in my collage, ::face.palm:: Oh well... It's a given. Anywhere I go, Jack comes with. It's such an everyday-don't-even-think-about-it type of thing, because there's always one in my pocket. Always. And if I somehow manage to leave the house without one, I go buy one. That's how hoarding starts, people.
IT Cosmetics Bye-Bye Under Eye Corrector in Light Some days my translucent under eyes are particularly shadowy and this stuff makes me look human again. The NARS is good, don't get me wrong, but sometimes by the end of the day the blue starts to creep back in, unless I have a layer of IT on first.
And last but not least, if I get to pick another brow product (not very minimalist, I know...), I pick the IT Cosmetics Brow Power pencil. They last forever. I love the spoolie on the other end. Brow Power and Benefit's Gimme Brow were just made for each other.
If you're ever bored, I suggest playing around on Polyvore, or actually going through your collection and just challenging yourself to hypothetically pare things down. Like the Perfect Palette Tag, it's a great way to re-evaluate your makeup collection compared to your actual needs/preferences. I honestly don't know when or if I'll ever have a collection this "small," but it's something I can keep in the back of my mind whenever I get palette goggles for the latest, greatest release. Writers refer to their SNI "Shiny New Idea" that tends to take over and distract them from current works in progress; I, on the other hand, have an issue with SNP "Shiny New Palette" and I've been working really hard to break the habit. Maybe I'll actually try the Pan That Palette Challenge in 2015 and see what kind of damage I can do. Some of the girls on You Tube are going to work on the Lorac Pro, but I feel like I should pick something older, like my Lancome/MAC palettes or UD Naked. I still have some time to mull it over...
