EOTD: St. Patrick's Day Look

Unfortunately, I work in a very conservative field, so no fun colors or smokey green eyes for me. I figured I could get away with green eyeliner, though. Plus, I needed something that would last through work and a 3 hour graduate class.

Breakdown:
  • Clinique Toasted Almond all over the lid
  • Clinique Buff on the brow bone and inner corner
  • Urban Decay 24/7 eyeliner in Apathy on the top lash line, topped with the dark green from the Flirt! 40 palette
  • Stila Smudge Stick in Moray on the bottom lash line
  • Jordana Made to Last eyeliner in Black Point for tightlining
  • Maybelline Full 'n Soft + Maybelline One by One mascaras

Swatch Wars! Avon Super Shock vs Jordana Made to Last Eyeliners

As if I needed any more brown or black eye liner... BUT when I was randomly browsing Avon's website at one in the morning I saw they had the SUPER SHOCK EYELINERS!!!! Ahhh!!! I heard about these bad boys yeeeeeeeeears ago when the Pixiwoo sisters talked about how amazing they were on the upper and lower waterlines and I had to have them!

So here we go... Avon SuperSHOCK Gel Eye Liner Pencils vs Jordana 12 Hr Made to Last Liquid Eyeliner Pencils.

Avon Super Shock in Blackout; Jordana Made to Last in Black Point; Avon Super Shock in Intense Brown; Jordana Made to Last in Espresso Point
Avon Blackout; Jordana Black Point; Avon Intense Brown; Jordana Espresso Last
Splashy, splashy! And none of them budged! Even with light rubbing.
This took some effort to smear with a paper towel. Honestly, I was more surprised that the Jordana swatches were hanging in there better than the Avon ones.
So as you can see, the blacks are fairly similar in color, but the browns are different. I think the Jordana one is a little richer than the Avon. While I've worn the Jordana liners smudged out on the top lash line (where you'd normally wear eyeliner), I can honestly say I've never done that with the Avon ones. They're soooo soft that I'm afraid it would look like a smeary mess, so I've only used them for tightlining.

Obviously, they're both pencils that need to be sharpened manually. They both contain 0.04 oz. Both make claims to being long-wearing, although Jordana specifically says theirs is "Water and Transfer Resistant." But here's the kicker: Avon's retail for $8 a piece and have to be ordered online or through a representative (which I hate!), compared to the Jordana, which are available for $2.49 at Walgreen's. $2.49, people!!! For that price, how can you not try it?

I'm working on actual swatches of how these perform in the tightline/waterline areas... so stay tuned!

Tone Petal Soft Moisturizing Pink Peony and Rose Oil Body Wash

Disclaimer: I received this product for being a BzzAgent. The review is completely my opinion and other than getting a free body wash and some coupons, I didn't receive anything else. :)

The Tone Petal Soft Moisturizing Pink Peony and Rose Oil body wash was very pleasant, but there are two qualifications that need to be made.

1) While it may be moisturizing under normal conditions (i.e., not during this brutal sub-zero temperatures we had this winter), I found it was not as moisturizing as other body washes I've tried.... like the Dove Visible Care Radiance that I raved about (click here for my review of that). However, I think during the spring/summer, it will be perfectly fine.

2) I didn't get any rose fragrance out of this. I got more of the pink peony/baby powder kind of scent, which smells nice, but I was a little disappointed not to get more rose. These are just minor things, though, and shouldn't detract from other people trying it out for themselves, though.

Other than that, it lathered nicely. It smells nice and feminine (which may or may not be a deal breaker for some people). But I don't think it's enough to make me break up with my Dove. Sorry, Tone!

LOTD: NYX Butter Gloss in Creme Brulee

Nekkid lips.
NYX Butter Gloss in Creme Brulee
I love this color soooo much! It's such a nice, light, peachy nude. I can see myself reaching for this a lot this spring/summer.

Neutrogena Nourishing Long Wear Foundation Review + Swatches

Disclaimer: I was sent this product as part of a BzzAgent campaign. The review, however, is completely my own and probably too honest for Neutrogena's liking...
I received the shade "Classic Ivory 10"
Swatch, in direct sunlight.

Blended out, in direct sunlight.

Second disclaimer: I do not wear foundation on a daily basis. So when I *do* use it, I want something that is fairly easy to work with and, obviously, a good color match. I got it in the lightest shade available, Classic Ivory 10, and while it looked very peachy as a swatch, it did blend out fairly nicely.

I think it would be better suited as a spring/summer foundation, though, because the tint would be a no-brainer if I got some color. I was constantly worrying about it blending into my neck/hairline properly. But the fact that I'm super pale isn't Neutrogena's fault. For the rest of the "normal" skins out there, this will probably be fine.

The texture, however, left something to be desired. Since it's in a glass bottle, I would assume the foundation is a liquid. It's not. It's like a melting mousse, really, that comes out in gobs. Getting it out was like banging on a glass ketchup bottle. You could literally stand it upside down, OPEN, and nothing would happen. For that reason, I think the packaging should have been a jar or a squeeze bottle.

Bare skin with a post-blemish red spot in all it's horribly magnified glory. Plus some freckles.
Foundation blended out... as you can see it mostly covers the general redness, but the spot is still visible.

The coverage was so-so. It evened out my skin for the most part, but blemishes were still clearly visible and needed additional concealing. Also, this emphasized my dry patches like crazy (even when my skin didn't look like it had any when there was just moisturizer on) which I found quite odd for a foundation claiming to be "nourishing." That being said, it didn't really seem like it faded or slid around during the day, so they definitely got the long-wear part right.

Given the price and how much I had to work with it and/or use other products to make it manageable, I don't think I'd repurchase. This is perhaps better suited to darker skin tones and people without dry patches.

Nuvail Nail Treatment Update

Having used Nuvail for three months (original post: here), I wanted to update you guys on how my nails are doing. Honestly, I think the pictures speak for themselves!

I don't know if you can see the liquid line, but having used this daily (or close to it... some days I just forget), look at how much is left! It's still above the half-full line.

Look! I have nails!

Normal, healthy nails with zero lifting, zero hot pink color (though you can see where the dark pink is still growing out), and zero burning heat in my nail beds.

I still don't understand the science behind this stuff, but it works! It stinks to high heavens and if you have a cut/nicked cuticle/hang nail it will burn like rubbing alcohol, but I don't care. I've actually been able to grow my nails out again. They're stronger than ever and like I said z.e.r.o. lifting. I haven't changed anything else to my life/routine. I still wash dishes by hand without gloves (yeah.. I know.. I really should get some). I still type on a computer (a lot!). I haven't changed anything in my diet. I credit the Nuvail completely with turning my nails around. And seeing how long it's lasting makes the original sticker-shock a non-issue.

EOTD: Bobbi Brown Stone + Beige

Technically this week I only had two eyeshadows to work with. You'll have to cut me a little slack for the nearly identical looks... I did my best, but really, there's only so much you can do with beige and taupe.

I like this one infinitely more than Romantic. Fo' sho'. Plus, it's a pinky/nudey/brown. What's not to love?

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

I hope everyone has a safe and happy St. Patrick's Day! Being the good Irish girl that I am, I'll be sure to post my green eye look later on, if anything, just to prove that I do wear color every now and again.

LOTD: Korres Lip Butter Glaze in Raspberry Moisturising

I got this in a Korres kit a while ago and I thought it was time to start using it up. And, actually, after today, I decided I didn't really like it and into the Empties bag it went. My main issue is that the color comes out sooooo dark, but then when you smear it around, it disappears...? How it does that, I have no idea. As I've said time again, I'm lazy. I don't want to fuss around with a lip gloss, of all things. It's just too much to squeeze it out and hope you get a precise-ish application with the slant-tip and then hope the product doesn't slide off your lips throughout the day. And, it wasn't very moisturizing, to boot.

I like the packaging... just not the formula.

EOTD: MAC Constructivist + Clinique Choco-latte Quad

I want to say that I was so mad at the lack of pigmentation in the Clinique quads that they FORCED me to go buy MAC Paint Pot in Constructivist so I could make it work... but really, I just wanted it. I will say that I think Clinique pushed me over the edge, though. I'd been teetering for a while and I knew if I was going to get through the challenge without cheating that I needed some help.

Look at how PRETTY it is now!! Thank you Constructivist.

Breakdown (numbers are going from L-R as they appear on the screen):
  • MAC Paint Pot in Constructivist as a base
  • 1 on the lid and underneath the lower lashes
  • 2 in the crease
  • 4 on the brow bone and inner corner
  • Clinique Chocolate Lustre eyeliner
  • Maybelline One by One mascara

EOTD: Clinique Choco-latte Quad

After the disappointment of Plum Seduction and Polar Blue, I didn't have high hopes for Choco-latte. It was slightly better, but I have much better browns/bronzes in my collection. This is just so underwhelming for me, it's sad. It looks like this quad didn't make the cut during Clinique's formula revamping, either.

Breakdown (again, since they don't have names/numbers, I'm assigning my own numbers going L-R as it appears on the screen):
  • 4 on the brow bone
  • 3 on the lid
  • 4 in the crease and underneath lower lashes
  • Clinique Brown Sugar eyeliner on top
  • Maybelline Full 'n Soft mascara + Cover Girl Lash Blast mascara

EOTD: Clinique Plum Seduction Quad + Clinique Polar Blue Quad

So... I don't know what happened to the second picture... the one that shows my lid more clearly? Somehow my computer ate it during the file transfer from my camera and by the time I realized it, I'd already deleted the master file. Whoops. Oh well. I wasn't jazzed about this week's grouping anyway...

Having already stated my distaste for the Polar Blue quad here, I didn't even bother using it this week, except this one time and it was only for the ivory color in it. No matter what base I use, I just cannot get the Polar Blue quad to work for me. And sadly, Plum Seduction is the same thing. The pigmentation is just so... meh. Side note: These are the old Clinique quads. They're not even available anymore. I haven't tested out any of Clinique's eyeshadows since they reformulated, but from what I understand, they're much, much better now.

The quad I mostly used...
And a little highlighting help from this one.

Breakdown (since they're not labeled/numbered, I'm assigning them numbers going L-R as they appear on the screen):
  • 4 from the Plum Seduction quad on the lid
  • 1 from the Plum Seduction quad in the crease and underneath the lower lashes
  • 4 from the Polar Blue quad on the brow bone and inner corner
  • Clinique Really Black eyeliner
  • Maybelline One by One mascara

Inspiration: Emmy Rossum

Love her voice. Love her makeup. Love her hair. She's the preppy brunette I always wanted to be. When I think doe-eyed, I think of her. She makes me want to brush up on my "no-makeup makeup" skills. I mean, look at her skin! It's flawless!

Clinique Super Fine Liner for Brows vs IT Cosmetics Brow Power

Since I recently got an email about what brow pencils I use, I figured I'd showcase the only two I have: the Clinique Super Fine Liner for Brows in Soft Auburn and the IT Cosmetics Brow Power Universal Brow Pencil.

Yes... I realize the IT one is upside down. I was lazy and just cropped a picture I already had and this is how it looks... sorry.
Clinique on top; IT Cosmetics on the bottom.

I think this is actually my third pencil from Clinique, if that's any indication of how much I like it. I don't really need to fill in my brows, but I do need to extend the "tail," if that makes sense, and the Soft Auburn matches my hair perfectly. I don't care what some makeup artists say about not getting a pencil with red undertones. I'm a redhead! Trust me, it looks fine on me. The Clinique Super Finer goes for $16 and is just your standard twist-up pencil. No spoolie or sharpner or anything.

I actually got the IT Cosmetics Brow Power as a "thank you" gift for another IT Cosmetics purchase. Even though it's a travel size, it's still lasted a long time. As you can see, it's slightly darker and more of a taupe/brown than the Soft Auburn. It still looks natural on me, though. It's weird. I guess I have chameleon eyebrows. The IT Cosmetics will set you back $24, but I love that it's waterproof and it has a built-in spoolie on one end, so it really is perfect for traveling.

I would keep buying both, but since I have more of the IT Cosmetics remaining (plus another "thank you" freebie from another purchase... I think I may have an IT Cosmetics addiction) I'll probably stick with the IT Cosmetics one until I'm totally out.

EOTD: Urban Decay Sellout + Mushroom

I didn't really have too many looks from my week with Urban Decay's "single" eyeshadows, only because I feel like I've already done them a zillion times. Except this combo. And I still don't know how I feel about no eyeliner. I know it's supposed to  make you look youthful, but I think it makes me look tired. Honestly. I even curled my eyelashes and I don't think it made one smidge of a difference. Plus, the fact that I actually got to take these pictures in daylight as opposed to before sun-up means that I look even paler than usual. I promise there was more contrast in real life. I mean, not much, but it wasn't just one shade of shimmer.

Breakdown:
  • Sellout on the lid and inner corner
  • Mushroom in the crease
  • Virgin on the brow bone
  • Stila Angelfish eyeliner on the waterline
  • Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes mascara
